world or worm? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/2/09
ok, first of all who cares. song rocks. it could be either really. maybe they believe in evolution. but there is a verse in the bible, psalm 22:6 "i am a worm, not a man." couldve been taken from that verse too, i doubt it, but possible, anyway, who cares. enjoy the music.
Subliminal Verses | Reviewer: Nick | 5/25/09
like some of you said that he says "Hold your breath, listen!"
and all these arguments if he says world, or worm. the album this is from is "The Subliminal Verses"" that is probably why he says, hold your breath, listen! like he anticipated everyone holding there breath and seeing if he says world or worm.
humanity | Reviewer: daphne | 3/14/09
i do not see absolute references to evolution. following the meaning of the song, "worm" does not fit. also, m to b (worm > before), the m would be more pronounced. the last time he says it is closest, but not close enough for "worm".
the song is about humanity. more precisely, humanity's inhumanity, and our individual lack of control over the whole. we are cattle. we are all part of the problem. we are one of humanity before we are an individual. society gets away with the most heinous of crimes, but the individual is the one who is obscene. the individual seeks comfort and protection from society, and MUST, but society uses and abuses them. a person may be good, but they are still part of the whole, and the whole is a monster. a heartless creature that stains, wounds, devours. its actions do not make sense. it functions on a primitive pack instinct. each of us shares this primitive instinct. (which explains why public speaking is terrifying: too many eyes on you at once means you are the prey.) each of us is a prepared sacrifice, which society will burn at its slightest whim. the end justifies the means, and the means are for no other reason than to delay that end. why are we here? for no reason at all. the world would be a better place if we were not.
Hold Your Breath, Listen | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/12/09
I think it's kind of ironic that he says:
"Hold your breath,
Listen"
Right before he sings the verse that everyone has been arguing about, (whether it says world or worm.)
It's almost like he anticipated it, and I'm sure that's what a lot of people did, they held their breath and listened to the next verse trying to figure out which word he used.
szal passz.
