On 22 May 2009, the band announced through their website and Twitter that the title of their new album would be The Resistance and that one of the track titles would be "United States of Eurasia".[44][45]
On 2 June 2009, the band announced through e-mails, and their website, that they would begin a tour of Europe, and the UK, beginning on 22 October 2009, at Hartwall Arena, Finland, and ending on December 4, at Pala Olimpico, Turin, Italy, and including two nights at London's O2 Arena. A full list of tour dates can be found here. This tour had completely sold out their 95,000 allocated tickets within minutes from the general onsale at 9 a.m. on June 5.[46]
On 12 June 2009, Dom posted a blog on his MySpace confirming that the album's mixing and mastering process had been completed and that the album is fully done. He also mentioned that he believes it is the best album that the band has ever made. [47]
On 16 June 2009, the official release date of The Resistance was announced on the band's website. The album is scheduled to be released September 14 this year.
On 02 July 2009, after listening to The Resistance; Zane Lowe reviewed it as "A beautifully recorded, strong, sweeping, fighting, uplifting, rocking, lilting and inclusive record about love."
