Step 1: Booting with ide0_master with installed MacOSX (Panther or other) disk image and ide0_slave with a new blank disk image.
Using Panther or other 10.x and having the dmg or iso image already on available to the system(copy the file to Panthers partition or like I did, accessing a network share):
- with Diskutility restore the dmg or iso image to the new blank partition
- with StartupDisk select the new partition to be the next boot partition. The current one should state 'MacOSX 10.3' and the new should state 'MacOSX 10.4'
Step 2: Booting with ide0_master with a new blank disk image and ide0_slave with the now restored MacOSX 10.4 image.
- Using prom_bootmethod = "select" boot from the 2nd partition, should be option 2.
- Install MacOSX 10.4 (Note: do a custom instalation, you can cut down to 50% in space and time with unused options eg. Printer drivers, fonts)
Edit: StartupDisk is in System Preferences on the top menu
