Brescia striker Andrea Caracciolo will almost certainly be wearing the Palermo shirt in the 2005-06 campaign.
The Italian international has been paired with the Sicilian club recently and Brescia admit a switch is on the horizon.
"We are very close to reaching an agreement," sporting director Gianluca Nani told GRT radio. "There are just a few details to iron out.
"However, I think that it would only be right that an eventual transfer be announced by Palermo."
Caracciolo will move to the Stadio Renzo Barbera in a player plus cash deal. "We’ve asked for Davide Pozzanzini as we already tried to sign him in January," added Nani.
Caracciolo’s proposed arrival has cast further doubt on the future of Luca Toni, who netted 20 goals in Serie A last term.
The latest whispers suggest that Palermo will also sign Bernardo Corradi from Valencia after the striker performed so well under new boss Gigi Del Neri at Chievo.
If Corradi arrives then Toni will almost certainly leave, with Fiorentina in pole position for his services.
Meanwhile, Brescia have confirmed that goalkeeper Luca Castellazzi will be sold following their relegation to Serie B.
"His move to Lazio is not a done deal," added Nani. "The Biancocelesti are one of the clubs who are most interested though.
"Considering that his contract expires in 2006 he will be sold, also as a reward for his efforts over the last five years here."
